How does recruitment work at Ashland University?
At Ashland University, Greek Life runs a system of formal recruitment where there is a set week during the fall semester in order to recruit new members. During the course of this week potential new members, also known as PMIs, visit each house for specified amounts of time through the course of the night. Ashland University likes to do this in order to showcase what each fraternity has to offer. A lot of times fraternities will have some type of theme, or some type of presentation about their fraternity.
At the end of the week, on Saturday, formal recruitment ends and PMIs receive bids. Bids are offers to join a Greek organization and PMIs will then sign a blue card, in accordance with Ashland University policies, stating their acceptance of one of the three fraternities on campus.
During the course of the year, after formal recruitment, informal recruitment occurs. Anytime during informal recruitment, bids can be offered to any full-time student.
Members then go through an education period before becoming members of the fraternity that they chose. All fraternities are non-hazing fraternities in accordance with Ashland University Policy, Ohio state law, and with their national organizations. During this education period members learn the history of the fraternity, along with the active members getting to know the new members.
Tau Kappa Epsilon has a six week education program run by an active member. New members learn local and national history, and traditions of the Fraternity, along with learning about the sororities on campus.
When is Formal Recruitment?
Formal Recruitment takes place a few weeks after the start of the school year, usually in early to mid September. Check the TKE or university calendars for specific dates.
